SJSU names Rebecca Dukes as the VP for University Advancement & CEO of the Tower Foundation

Rebecca Dukes joined San José State as its vice president for University Advancement and CEO of the Tower Foundation in December 2012. She has more than 30 years in the not-for-profit sector, including 18 years in healthcare and 13 in higher education. She was executive director of the National Easter Seal, Arthritis and Kidney foundations, and was director of marketing/development at three different types of hospitals: faith based, children’s and osteopathic.

In higher education, Dukes served as director of planned giving and then assistant vice president of institutional advancement at Utah State University and vice president of development at Westminster College, Salt Lake City. As vice president of advancement and executive director of New Mexico State University, she managed an endowment of $129 million and more than 40 staff members, and oversaw the completion of the first goal of NMSU’s first comprehensive campaign.

Most recently, Dukes was a financial advisor with Armstrong Prickett & Associates at Merrill Lynch in Albuquerque. She worked specifically with an institutional and private banking consulting team. Dukes maintained her own portfolio of private wealth clients. She also worked with the team’s nonprofit and faith-based clients, and served as the chief marketing specialist for the team. She holds Series 7 and 66 licenses, as well as a national mortgage designation.

Dukes has also been a frequent speaker both nationally and internationally on working with volunteer investment committees and foundation boards on nonprofit investment, governance, campaign design, marketing and fundraising.

“Be careful of what you say you’ll never do,” Dukes says. The avid runner, yoga enthusiast and wannabe gourmet cook swore she’d never run a marathon. She has completed six of them.
